Matt Novakovich

Matt has been a lifelong outdoorsman and waterman.  After struggling to find the speargun that met his exact needs for the local murky New England conditions, he started building his own guns.  The son of a woodworker, Matt was raised in a workshop and had the skillset to begin crafting high-end spearguns.  

​While Matt enjoys hunting pelagic around the world, he is at home hunting the green waters off Rhode Island.

​

Matt's go-to inshore speargun is a 65cm mid-handled WHR and he packs his travel bag with a 130cm break-down Oceania model.

North Carolina

Quentin Turko, North Carolina

Quentin grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with a passion for everything to do in the ocean. He first got into spearfishing when he was 12 years old, by paddling his surfboard out to one of the shipwreck that is only 100 yards off the beach. He takes full of advantage of the world class spearfishing on the over 3,000 shipwrecks of coast of the Outer Banks, known as the Grave Yard of the Atlantic. All othese shipwrecks offer a great variety of spearfishing opportunities, from sheepshead on nearshore wrecks to African Pompano out in the Gulf Stream.

Quentin's two favorite Ocean State Spearguns are the Watch Hill Reef for sheepshead in murky water and The Atlantis for spearfishing in bluewater.

Rhode Island

Jamie Frost

Jamie’s spearfishing journey began around the age of four, holding onto a pool noodle while following his father as he speared lobsters in the Bahamas. He landed his first lobster before he was even strong enough to stretch the band on a Hawaiian sling, with his father helping him pull it back. Over time, he carried that passion back to Rhode Island, starting with inshore diving and more recently focusing on bluewater spearfishing in the Northeast canyons.

Jamie religiously carries his 130cm Atlantis bluewater speargun on multi-day the canyon trips.

Michigan

John Durtka

John was born in Michigan and raised hunting and fishing throughout the woods and waters of the Lower Peninsula. He was a competitive swimmer and spent six years as a Red Cross–certified lifeguard and water safety instructor. In recent years, he has focused on underwater spearfishing, freediving, and exploring the Great Lakes. He serves as president of the Michigan Spearfishing Association and as first mate for At Dawn Guide Service.

Louisiana

Frankie Tabary

Frankie is a Louisiana diver from New Orleans who has been diving since the age of 14. A third-generation diver, he serves as President of the Hell Divers. His primary focus is free-diving along the Gulf Coast. He was taught by his grandfather, a former commercial diver. Diving is not only his personal passion but one that has been deeply rooted in his family for generations.​

Patrick has an entire arsenal of OSS spearguns, but his go-to is an 80cm Sugar Reef Speargun, simple and deadly.
